Creativity and collaboration to accelerate a brighter future in fashion.
Our mission at Lenzing is to transform the textile industry, but we know we can't do this alone. Much of our work is to connect and inspire stakeholders throughout the supply chain. TENCEL™ fibers are versatile with wide-ranging applications and can be used as an ingredient to enhance other materials.
One of the most exciting partnerships is with the Paris-based innovators Recyc Leather and the B-Corp Danish fashion brand Ganni. With Recyc Leather, we have created a new game-changing material called Pélinova® — essentially pioneering a technique that fuses TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with recycled leather fibers — leather scraps rescued from landfill. Earth.org, the leading environmental news website, estimates that of the 100 billion garments produced yearly, 92 million tonnes end up in landfills. This is just one part of the problem.
Ganni is an industry leader in the sustainable fashion stakes. Debuting first with one style in early 2024, GANNI’s Slouchy Boots, last season, for Spring-Summer 2025 (in stores in Feb), they applied Pélinova® across a wider selection of shoes. Eventually, the Danish brand hopes to phase virgin leather out of its production process entirely.
“However, the work doesn't stop here,” says Lauren Bartley, Chief Sustainability Officer at Ganni. “Collaborating and experimenting with partners like Tencel and Recyc Leather on new fabric innovations to develop alternatives to materials as we know them today is crucial to reaching ambitious carbon reduction goals.”
