Sustainable lace made of TENCEL™ branded fibers under the spotlight at Interfilière Paris

Lace has always been a key component of lingerie and intimate wear, but during this year’s Interfilière Paris trade show, an added component of sustainability was particularly sought after by industry partners and brands. On 21st -23rd January, Lenzing showcased its latest lace sample products made of TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers at the event.

The sample lingerie collection, which comprises of more than 40% of TENCEL™ fibers in the lace, is a testament to the shift from style to the increased demand for softness, sustainability and comfort. Lace with a high composition of TENCEL™ fibers offers consumers unprecedented softness and comfort that is not found in conventional lace products.

Lace made of TENCEL™ fibers ties in perfectly with “Soft Comfort”, one of the seven key trends of lingerie defined by the organizer of Interfilière Paris. In addition to softness, which is key for all fabric classifications, vegetable dye, eco yarns and blended materials are also important, with comfort properties like moisture transport, thermal and antibacterial treatments taking centerstage. Surface textures of terry, pique, waffle and fluffy are also key to the new generation of lace.

“We have been attending the Interfilière Paris show for years now, and this year, it has been an exceptionally exciting year for Lenzing. We have received overwhelming interest from brands and industry partners on sustainable lace offerings made with TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers. We are confident that more brands and industry partners will explore sustainable lace materials in the coming year, as it not only enhances the level of bio-based materials in the garment, but also improves comfort and style. We look forward to exploring more innovative applications of TENCEL™ fibers in lingerie, sleepwear and loungewear,” said Bernd Schleuchardt, Global Manager, Knits, Lenzing AG.

In addition to “Soft Comfort”, according to the organizers of Interfilière Paris, the other key trends for lingerie that will emerge in 2023 include:

  1. “Spicy Escape”, featuring lace with geometric patterns and block prints
  2. “Sensual Magnificence”, with organic impressions and ornamental placement lace that is reworked, overprinted, and sequined with metallics
  3. “Optimism”, with embroideries, jacquards, prints and yarn dyes in big florals, small geometrics, stripes and crochet types for layering
  4. “Sweet Traditions”, featuring updates to the authentic lingerie made with upcycled dead stock fabrics
  5. “Sheer Attitude”, with ultra-fine but strong lace fabric, new fine denier laces, pleats & seersucker, as well as nets in every scale.
  6. “Super stretch”, which is for active and leisure wardrobes that can be used for gym, street and clubbing. It has a two and four way stretch for fit and reduced size ranges and also features lace and jacquards with improved contour properties plus a soft hand feel.

Moving forward, Lenzing will continue to keep innovating in the sustainable lace space, to provide end consumers with the stylish, comfortable and eco-friendly product that they deserve.
